Yunsung Lee (b. 1985)
My work is concerned with old narratives and with the forms of expression found in contemporary visual culture. I take stories handed down through myth and legend, Greco-Roman mythology above all, as my motifs, and I adopt as my formal language the visual methods of subculture imagery, the kind known as manga or moe. This approach extends beyond subject and figure: it shapes the form and scale of the frame, the way canvases are combined and composed as modules, and the handling of color and paint.
